The Gifts of Being Broken Open

It is my intention in this post to be curious about what is actually being broken when we feel broken from something that seems to have gone wrong. What really goes wrong?!

My understanding (perspective) is that our thinking and feelings are not who we actually are. Rather, we are the observer (awareness) of the thoughts and feelings that we experience throughout our lifetime. We are actually experiencing our thoughts and feelings about everything. We come to those thoughts and feelings from a myriad of circumstances. Again this is not who we are that is just our collected experiences and or lack thereof.

The more that we can be aware (being the observer) the more we can be mindful of how to create the experience we want to have.

What you practice grows stronger (thinking, feeling, doing or lack thereof).
For the neuroscientific translation... It's called cortical thickening. It is where the term thick in the head came from. It can work to serve us or not. Good habits versus 'bad' habits. The more we think a particular way about things the more those things exist for us. Let me share an example; If you continuously vent to someone about a particular situation it reinforces it. It certainly doesn't change it, not even one bit. However, if you are curious about why you are thinking or feeling a certain way about something, well that changes everything! The mere fact that you are curious and willing to explore further is enough. If all you did was when a thought or feeling came to you, and all you did was to observe it as just that and not as it is you, you are free.

So allow yourself to be broken open, like a seed or the butterfly breaking free from the chrysalis. The more that you do the more that you become.
